Guanellian Sisters

Identity & Mission
Casa Santa Rosa is part of the work of the Daughters of Saint Mary of Providence, the Guanellian Sisters, founded by Saint Luigi Guanella.
Their mission is to welcome and care for the most vulnerable—lonely elderly people, persons with disabilities, children, and families in difficulty—offering human and spiritual support.
Each work is born from the desire to place at the center those who are most forgotten, according to the words of the Founder: “Do not put last in the house those who should be first: the most abandoned.”

Saint Luigi Guanella
Saint Luigi Guanella (1842–1915), a priest from Valchiavenna, was an educator and tireless apostle of charity. After his experiences with Don Bosco and the Cottolengo, he chose to dedicate his life to “those who belong to no one,” founding in Como the Little House of Divine Providence and many other works.
To ensure continuity to his mission, the Daughters of Saint Mary of Providence (Guanellian Sisters) and the Servants of Charity were founded, alongside the Guanellian Cooperators.
Canonized in 2011, his spirit continues to live on in the Guanellian Family, united by the desire that no one be left behind.
